Best service provider to Airbus
Aviation Metals have received a major award from Airbus for the first class service provided from the Milton Keynes site over the last two years. The award of 'Best Extrusion Service Provider 2005' covers the whole of the Airbus organisation with votes cast in all the countries where Airbus manufacture airframe components. Martyn Brown, VP Airbus - Metallics Procurement made the presentation during a recent visit to the Milton Keynes site. The 100% on time delivery and quality performance is the result of considerable hard work by the whole team at Aviation with particular credit due to the Airbus contract team and the tube processing centre. Martyn thanked all the employees, highlighted increasing volumes ahead and concluded with a call to 'keep up the good work'.
Apollo and BHW sign long term agreement
The Eclipse 500 (www.eclipseaviation.com) is a revolutionary new aircraft that will set new standards in jet safety, performance and value. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F engines, the aircraft will have accommodation for five passengers plus the pilot and will have a maximum cruise speed of 375 knots. It will cost substantially less than rival aircraft and is creating a new market for air taxis.Hampson's Aerospace Fabrications & Assemblies Division (“BHW”) have an exclusive contract with Eclipse corporation to assemble the complete empennage structure of this revolutionary new aircraft, including component parts and large stretch-formed components. Hampson are making a substantial investment in new plant and equipment in both the UK and USA.
Apollo has signed a long term agreement for the exclusive supply of aluminium plate, sheet and routed parts to BHW components in Wigan, a subsidiary of Hampson Industries PLC.
Hampson have already supplied assemblies for pre-production aircraft in 2005, this will be followed by a rapid build up in support of Eclipse's production plans for over 1000 aircraft per annum from 2008 onwards. The volumes and automotive style just-in-time manufacturing methodology for this programme will be very demanding for Apollo but it is an excellent opportunity, providing volume work for both Preston and Birmingham sites. "We are delighted to be associated with Eclipse and to have the opportunity to play a significant part in the launch of this revolutionary new aircraft," said Stuart Wilkins, Chief Executive of Apollo.
