H4 Aerospace

The company started as BBJ Design Services Ltd. (BBJDS) in 2000 having been formed by Russ Wenman, Gordon Taylor and Frank Baldwin who are all still active in the company on a day to day basis.

Swiss-based PrivatAir, a minor shareholder in the company, gave BBJDS its first opportunity on a VIP B757 mod program having seen the completion centre originally tasked with the project get into difficulties, leaving PrivatAir high and dry and in urgent need of assistance.

BBJDS rose to the challenge and completed the B757 aircraft engineering in a timely manner seeing the project through to delivery and still provides on going support to the aircraft when required.

These early days of the company were operated from a home office in Chesham, UK, which the company soon outgrew. Six years on, H4 Aerospace now occupies the complete facility and employs some 30 individuals and has offices in Budapest, Hungary, Hamburg, Germany and Hawarden, UK

The company’s presence in the market is one of continued growth with ongoing business relationships with many of the leading airlines and completion centres.

H4 Aerospace has the commitment and drive to undertake aircraft engineering via a number of flexible business approaches, either on a sub-contracted project by project requirement or as an extension of an existing internal engineering department on an “on demand” basis.

The company also operates as the overall primary engineering team for certain airline operators providing all engineering resources required either locally as an on-site team or remotely from one of H4A offices. However, all are controlled and maintained under H4 Aerospace’s certification capabilities and procedures, offering a cost effective alternative to the issues of running an in-house department.

Aerospace design programs can range from complex aircraft structural modifications or avionics upgrades / electrical upgrades, to that of a relatively simple LOPA risk assessment design cabin reconfiguration. These all require time and resources that are not always easy to identify or commit on a continued long term basis. That commitment will usually require different expertise to the specific skills and airframe knowledge within an airline or completion centre engineering team.

H4 Aerospace specialises in providing the level of expertise required over an ever growing number of airframes, with a team of qualified

engineers ready to tackle an extensive range of aerospace engineering

requirements. The company has brought together both mechanical and

avionic/electrical skilled engineers, as a centre of excellence to meet the

demands of its worldwide customer base and the associated regulatory

aviation authorities. Whilst the majority of customers are from airline

operators, H4 Aerospace also has an impressive list of VVIP owned

aircraft and subsequent related completion centre customers.

H4 Aerospace has the commitment and drive to undertake aircraft

engineering on either a sub-contracted project by project basis, or as it

does with certain operators, act as the primary resource for all engineering

related activities as a cost effective alternative to the issues of running an inhouse

department.

This growing market sector has resulted in the expansion of the company from

its UK head office operations in Hemel Hempstead and Hawarden in the UK, to

include offices in Hamburg, Germany and Budapest, Hungary as key cities

within Europe to provide a higher level of service to its regional customer base.

The company carries EASA part 21 design approval and has over the years

established working relationships with other worldwide aviation authorities

when required in its task to design and approve a modification etc. Aircraft

UK re-registration is also covered under the company’s CAA E3 approvals. The

majority of the H4 Aerospace engineering team hold EASA CVE status

covering both mechanical and avionic/electrical disciplines to assist the

process of approvals in general.

H4 Aerospace’s in house capabilities also include Stress Analysis,

Programme Management and Technical Publications enabling the

company to undertake and control a complete turnkey project for a

customer. Technical on-site support throughout the project can also be

provided, with H4 Aerospace dedicated engineers resident at a facility

throughout the design and commission phase of a program.

H4 Aerospace directors and employees are committed to meeting the

customer’s requirement for design excellence and support.
